About the Item

A striking French 19th century Louis XVI st. Rouge de Verone marble pedestal column. The pedestal is raised by a square marble base with a beautiful wraparound tied berried laurel band at the elegantly curved socle shaped support. The lightly tapered circular central support is encased within richly chased acanthus leaves at the base and an exceptional pierced ormolu reserve with a handsome intricately detailed lion's head amidst foliate designs and a Fleur de Lys like mount all in a superb satin and burnished finish. Above most decorative mottled bands are impressive scrolled acanthus leaf capital like designs and the square mottled top display tier. All original gilt throughout. Top dimensions: L: 11.75" D: 11.75".
