The surface is beautifully rendered in imitation porphyry — a prized stone of antiquity — achieved through the labor-intensive scagliola technique, in which plaster, pigments, and natural materials are skillfully combined to replicate the appearance of fine marble and hardstone.
The pedestal rests on a cove-molded foot above a contrasting black base, lending a sense of architectural balance and understated grandeur.
