About the Item
An exceptional and very high quality pair of French 19th century Louis XIV st. Ebony, brass, giltwood and ormolu Boulle st. pedestals. Each pedestal is raised by fine giltwood feet below the rectangular base with an arched front and sides decorated with elegant inlaid brass fillets with striking richly chased pierced scrolled foliate ormolu mounts flanking a beautiful tied berried laurel wreath. The tapered body displays a most decorative recessed front and side panels centered by a finely detailed central Bacchanalian mask below lovely pierced scrolled foliate movements and lyres at the sides each framed within brass fillets and beautiful wrap around foliate ormolu bands. Above are striking richly chased ormolu acanthus leaves and a Les Oves band leading up to the French polished top.
