About the Item

A Biot jar is a traditional French terracotta vessel handcrafted in the village of Biot on the Côte d’Azur. Known for its distinctive rounded “olive jar” silhouette, it features a bulbous body, narrow neck, and subtly flared rim. These jars were historically made for storing olive oil and other provisions, created using a centuries-old rope-turning technique that gives each piece its characteristic spiraled texture and natural variations. This original antique Biot jar displays a warm, sun-washed patina in a sandy beige hue, with traces of it's original glaze along the interior or upper exterior. Valued today for both their sculptural quality and authenticity, Biot jars make timeless statement pieces—beautiful as planters, decorative accents, or architectural elements in both interiors and gardens.
