About the Item

A striking and substantial pair of early 20th century Chinese Foo Dog guardian lions, cast in solid concrete with a weathered white and terracotta painted finish. These monumental sculptures are rich in detail, featuring curled manes, stylized paws, and decorative bases adorned with lotus motifs. Traditionally placed in pairs to guard entrances, Foo Dogs (also known as Fu Lions or Imperial Guardian Lions) symbolize strength, protection, and prosperity. This male and female duo reflects that symbolism, with classic postures representing both worldly power and nurturing care. Impressive in both size and weight, they make an extraordinary statement flanking a garden path, courtyard, or entryway.
