About the Item

Modeled after ancient Greek prototypes, these sphinx figures combine a female human head with the body of a lion, shown seated with wings raised. The modeling reflects neoclassical interpretations of classical sculpture, with balanced proportions and stylized detailing. Executed in terracotta with a naturally aged surface. Matched terracotta sphinx pairs of this scale and cohesion are increasingly difficult to source.
