About the Item

Pair of 19th Century Hand-Carved Carrara Marble Planters A striking pair of 19th century Italian urn-form planters, masterfully hand-carved from solid Carrara marble. Each planter features deeply chiseled high-relief vine and hop motifs, wrapping gracefully around the body and rim in a continuous band of naturalistic ornamentation. The rims are boldly flared and adorned with a carved leafy border, while the bases rest on scalloped footings that add visual weight and balance. The planters exhibit beautiful natural veining characteristic of Carrara marble, ranging from soft whites and pale greys to subtle amber and beige inclusions. One planter displays more oxidation and surface weathering, enhancing its antique patina, while the other retains a cleaner, lighter tone—both testaments to their age and individuality as hand-worked pieces. Each urn includes a central drainage hole at the base, making them ideal for functional use in garden or terrace settings. These substantial and elegant pieces are suitable for both indoor and outdoor display, offering timeless classical charm.
