About the Item

A pair of stoneware urns by J.M. Blashfield, each body ornamented with four lion masks joined by festoons of fruit and flowers, stamped on inside of rim, “J M Blashfield, Stamford”, English, ca. 1870, each raised on associated rising circular socle and square base marked “Pulhams Terracotta Broxburne”, English, ca. 1900. 29.5 ins. high, 32 ins. wide. The unusual marriage of two marked pieces, vase and base, likely happened in the late 19th century as both companies were making clay-based terracotta around the same time. They both produced a long-fired product similar to the earlier Coade Stone.
