About the Item

A 19th Century Armorial Stained Glass Panel From Locko Park Derbyshire. This stained glass window panel depicts the impaled arms of the Drury-Lowe and Needham families. This intricate glasswork blends coloured and painted glass across a variety of themes. The crest is made up of opposing scrolls, with animal motifs throughout including stags, greyhounds and griffins. Two knights helmets face inwards in the centre over stars and a sash. More stars border the piece, with trees, flowers and leaves over red glass. The motto ‘Duty Leads Me’ runs across the bottom of the crest. The Lowe family can be traced back to the early 15th century, taking up occupancy of Locko park in 18th century. Early developments to the estate involved a sixteen acre lake, a parapet and Italiante tower. The family still occupy the estate to this day, with several family members have served as High Sheriff of Derbyshire. There are two additional parts to this window that sit above and below, making up the monogram of William Drury Nathaniel Drury-Lowe JP, DL (1828 - 1906), and Lucy Needham, daughter of Viscount Newry and Sister of the 3rd Earl of Kilmorey. This can be seen under SKU 37520.
