About the Item

A 19th century roundel depicting the royal arms of Charles II made circa 1850. This Royal Coat of Arms was used 1707 to 1801. This specific design represents the union of England and Scotland, with Ireland remaining separate at the time. The first and fourth quarters represent England. The second quarter represents Scotland and the third quarter represents Ireland with the harp. The arms are encircled by a garter bearing the motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense" which translates to "Shame on him who thinks evil of it." The highly detailed crown atop the arms represents the Imperial State Crown.
