A rare and beautifully worn 19th-century French grape harvesting hod, used during the vendange in vineyards throughout the wine-growing regions of France. Constructed from walnut wood and bound with iron bands, this barrel-form vessel was designed to be both durable and lightweight—ideal for carrying freshly harvested grapes. What sets this piece apart is its extraordinary surface: layers of original green and white paint weathered to perfection, revealing the rich history of its use. The original branch handles, sculptural and primitive, add an organic, hand-hewn quality that speaks to its rural craftsmanship. A sculptural and functional antique, this hod makes a unique statement as a planter, firewood holder, or decorative object in rustic, French country, or wine cellar settings. Excellent antique condition with original paint, surface wear, and patina consistent with age and use. Structurally solid.
