About the Item

A wonderful example of an Akha Tribe spice basket, with a stunning woven pattern on all sides and crafted from a mix of rattan. This basket was once used to store precious spices and/or tea leaves. Amid hill tribe culture, men are most often the Basket makers, women more often than not are the textile weavers. Rattan is sourced and cut into various sizes to form a stunning range of baskets that include carrying baskets, food textile baskets. This basket bears a range of weaves and rattan sizes. The top and bottom layer feature a thick weave, with the sides bearing a fine and tightly knit weave that forms a wonderful contrast. A wonderful decorative object certain to invoke conversation.
