About the Item
Here is a unusual boat-shaped pencil rattan and brass basket or bowl. Measuring over 19" wide, this piece could be used for fruit, decorative fill or even as a larger-scaled catch-all. We believe this is of Italian origin. Although many people have attributed this design style to Gabriella Crespi, it is not. Nonetheless, it's a very good-looking piece that could integrate into a wide range of interior styles.
The basket is in good condition. There are a few losses of the flat banded rattan trim (shown in photos) that do no affect the structural integrity. The main loss is best seen from the photo of the underside of the piece. This said, the piece displays well. The brass has its original patina--it would polish to a bright, gleaming shine if desired.
