About the Item

Tall Backpack Basket Laos Mid 20th century (or earlier) Bamboo and rattan, twill weave 16.5″ high x 13″ diameter at top (42 x 33 cm) From southern Laos, mostly rattan with some bamboo elements, used for foraging in the forest and carrying vegetables. The lovely color and patina results from smoking the baskets to protect them from insects. The lighter area on the lower backside indicates that it was used.
