About the Item
A colourful and abstract Murano glass bowl, handcrafted in Italy circa 1960s. Formed from lattimo glass—the Italian version of milk glass—cased within a clear crystal layer, the piece is softly circular with a gentle indentation along one side, lending it a shell-like, organic silhouette.
The interior features an expressive array of multicoloured Murano glass canes, applied in an irregular, painterly composition. Reminiscent of modernist abstract paintings, these vivid swathes—ribbon-like in form—are accented by delicate aventurine inclusions. The copper particles embedded in the glass catch the light and shimmer subtly, adding visual depth and richness to the decoration.
Although unsigned, the material palette and decorative approach are consistent with the work of Fratelli Toso, known for his experimental use of lattimo glass and colour during the 1950s and 1960s.
Measuring approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter, 5 inches (12.7 cm) deep, and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) high, the bowl is in good vintage condition. Some light surface wear is visible to the polished base, with a few tiny fleabites present—likely related to the original firing process.
