About the Item
A vibrant Murano glass bowl by Alfredo Barbini, handcrafted in Italy circa the 1970s using the traditional sommerso technique.
The bowl is formed with a deep cobalt blue glass core, overlaid with a dense black outer casing, creating strong chromatic contrast. Within the blue interior, subtle white spiral striations radiate outward, producing a dynamic visual effect often associated with Barbini’s late Murano production. The rim is shaped with three evenly spaced indentations, lending the piece a rhythmic, organic profile and enhancing its sculptural presence.
Measuring approximately 8.1 in (20.5 cm) in diameter and 2.75 in (7 cm) high, this is a substantial example for its type, suitable as a centrepiece, decorative object, or collector’s display.
The bowl remains in very good vintage condition, with light surface wear consistent with age and careful use. No cracks or chips; the glass retains excellent clarity and lustre.
A strong example of Italian art glass from the 1970s, reflecting Alfredo Barbini’s mastery of layered colour, controlled form, and expressive Murano craftsmanship.
