About the Item

A stunning pewter bowl with brass details and wood handles. Designed by Nils Fougstedt in 1929 and made from 1930 by Firma Svenskt Tenn, Stockholm, Sweden. This vase is made in 2017. Excellent condition. Stamped with makers mark and 'T11' for the year 2017. Nils Fougstedt (1881-1954) was a sculptor, silversmith, and artisan who became strongly associated with Svenskt Tenn. During the summer of 1924, Estrid Ericson and Nils Fougstedt established "Konsthantverkets verkstad" (The Workshop of Craft), and together with two metalworker employees, they began manufacturing pewter objects at Kungsholmstorg in Stockholm. This marked the first step towards Estrid Ericson later founding the company Svenskt Tenn, with Nils Fougstedt designing several beautiful objects for the company over the years. Nils Fougstedt developed his artistic style over the years, and his initial interpretation of 1920s classicism gradually transformed into a restrained functionalism, characterised by smooth and shining surfaces. For Svenskt Tenn, he designed, among other things, nesting tables and tray tables with engraved pewter discs, pewter boxes, vases and candlesticks. Over the years, Nils Fougstedt has become an icon in the Swedish world of pewter, and today his pieces are often found at auctions.
