About the Item

An English Art Deco ceramic bowl by Burgess Leigh, crafted circa 1930s for the renowned Burleigh Ware line. This decorative serving bowl exemplifies the era’s stylised natural motifs and geometric precision. Shallow and elliptical in form, it features a raised central design of curling palm trees encircled in relief—echoed at the border by a rhythmic band of deco foliage. Compact side handles complete the silhouette. The surface is ground-glazed in a warm buttermilk yellow, with hand-painted detailing in grass green and earthy brown—colours typical of British ceramics of the period. Measuring 35 cm wide by 25.5 cm long and standing 4.5 cm tall, this vintage Art Deco bowl remains in very good condition with only minor signs of age. Marked to the base with the printed Burgess Leigh Burleigh Ware stamp, it speaks to the firm’s commitment to quality ceramic artistry during the interwar years. Decorative yet practical, it offers potential as a striking centrepiece or statement serving dish in a curated interior.

Art Deco Ceramic Athens Vase by Thomas Forester Sons, England, 1930s
By Thomas Forester Sons
Located in Glasgow, GB
An original Art Deco ceramic vase by Thomas Forester Sons, crafted in Staffordshire, England during the early 1930s. This distinctive piece belongs to the firm’s ‘Athens’ collection—a short-run series now highly regarded among collectors of British ceramics and Art Deco pottery. The vase is defined by its elongated tubular profile, flaring subtly to form a softly bulging centre. Its surface is decorated with rows of acanthus leaves in pale blue relief, curling rhythmically around the body. The crisp blue detailing sits against a backdrop of deep russet and ochre glazes, a palette typical of Forester’s output in the early 20th century and evocative of the broader Art Deco design movement in Britain. Standing 26 cm tall with a diameter of 14 cm, the vase is stamped to the base with the Phoenix Ware...
