About the Item

A beautiful stoneware bowl with blue glaze and geometric pattern. Made by renowned Danish ceramist Vibeke Fischer, Denmark, 1980s. Excellent condition. Signed underneath. Vibeke Fischer (b. 1944) is a distinguished Danish ceramic artist based in Espergærde, Denmark. Her education is both rich and international: she trained in the UK at Loughborough College of Art, Edinburgh College of Art, and Camberwell College of Art and Crafts in London. She concluded her formal studies in the sculpture department at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. At Camberwell, she studied under the influential ceramicists Lucie Rie and Hans Coper, while earlier in England, she was taught by David Leach—each contributing significantly to her artistic philosophy and craftsmanship. From them, she inherited the values of simplicity in form and decoration (Leach), combined with innovation and creative freedom (Rie and Coper). Fischer has established herself at the top tier of both Danish and international studio ceramics. She has held numerous solo exhibitions across Denmark and internationally—including venues such as Åbenrå Museum, the Ceramic Museum in Laholm (Sweden), Gallery Rasmus (Copenhagen and Odense), and Galleri Jørgen Østergård (Aarhus). Her participation in juried and invited exhibitions spans institutions like the Museum of Applied Art, Charlottenborg, Formland (Herning), Bonhams Contemporary Ceramics (London), and exhibitions in Japan, the Baltic states, Germany, and the UK—among many others. Her work is part of notable collections and commissions: she has pieces held by Danish institutions—such as Den Danske Bank and Ny Kredit—as well as by the Crown Prince Frederik, and the municipalities of Athens and Helsingør.
