About the Item

A bowl with the name Candara with a simplistic and iconic design by renowned italian designer Lino Sabattini from circa 1970. The condition is good albeit with some wear (see pictures). Lino Sabattini was born in Correggio (Reggio Emilia) the 23rd of September 1925. While he was still a child, his family moved to Blevio on the Como Lake. At the age of 14 he found a work in Como, in a commonplace brass objectst shop. Soon he found a copy of Gio’ Ponti review “Domus”. It became his correspondence school. In the brassware shop he earned his living, but he also learned the techniques of metal’s trade. Soon he meets Rolando Hettner an artist residing in a mill. The man of the old mill becomes his mentor and inspiration, which he encourages to break through artistic solutions. Sabattini by the age of thirty, left Blevio to move to Milan where he set up a small workshop. Now he also knows students of Gio' Ponti. One of these brings to the master some metal objects created by the young craftsman. One day Ponti shows up at his door and gives him an IDEA to develop. Only three days go by and Sabattini finishes the job. Ponti is enthusiastic about it. Thus begins the friendship relationship marked by milestones: Milan Triennials, Venice Biennials, publications in the best magazines in the world, one-man shows in Italy and abroad. In 1956 Sabattini creates a sensation with the prototype of the “Como” service at the Paris exhibition “Forme ed idee d'Italia”. From 1958 to 1963 he worked in Paris and Milan for Christofle. In 1964 he moved to Bregnano where he becomes an entrepreneur of his own ideas, that found no space in the contemporary productive world. This is how he begins his solitary adventure which takes shape in the Sabattini Argenteria, where he creates the most graceful shapes in silver.
