About the Item

Chinese scholars and connoisseurs prized the organic form of burl wood and the way it referenced the wonders of the natural world. This petite burlwood vessel dates to the mid-19th century and has a sculptural wooden form encased in a sheer layer of burgundy lacquer. The small container balances natural beauty with expert craftsmanship, some areas elevated by lacquer carvings and others awash with the swirling wood grain of the tree burl formation. We love this unusual vessel as an unexpected candle holder, incense burner or tabletop planter.
