In 2018, Thalía Velasco and Walther Santiago founded Raíz Mx, a design workshop/studio that rescues and unites the history of pottery, one of the most representative Mexican craft techniques, with contemporary design through pieces that highlight the authenticity of the clay. and they are capable of tangibly showing the materialization of our roots. Raíz begins with Herencias, a select collection of pieces found and rescued from various sites, houses, ranches, workshops, wineries and even vacant land, not always preserved in the best conditions. By delving deeper into the different stories, artisans and creative techniques of the pieces, we ventured to create new ways of making clay a material that stands out for its natural beauty, transforming it into pieces that transform spaces through timeless designs. Using pottery and clay as a channel, Raíz Mx seeks to show a different facet of the work that can be done with this material, maximizing its capacity and showing its natural quality, respecting the essence of traditional artisanal processes and exploring each stage of production. , from the conception of the design, the selection and mixtures of the material to the various types of finishes on each piece. We are interested in exhibiting the possibilities that a material as noble and representative as clay has.
