About the Item
Early Stone Mortar, 18th–19th Century
A beautifully worn hand-carved stone mortar, likely 18th or early 19th century. Hewn from a single block of stone, the piece shows the irregular texture and soft patina that only comes with long use and age. The rounded bowl has thick walls and projecting lugs to each side, typical of early utilitarian forms used in kitchens or apothecaries.
The surface has developed a rich, natural coloration with subtle variations and traces of tool marks, giving it a strong sculptural quality.
A simple, timeless object that works equally well as a decorative bowl, planter, or as part of a rustic or wabi-sabi interior display.
