About the Item

Georges Jouve (1910–1964) for Longchamp, France. Organic-shaped ceramic bowl with deep burgundy glaze. Mounted with leather-covered underside, stamped with the Longchamp mark. H. 4.5 cm, D. 12 cm. Period: circa 1950s. Condition: Good condition with light patina and traces of use. A classic example of the collaboration between Jouve and Longchamp, combining the artist’s organic design language with refined craftsmanship. Georges Jouve (1910–1964) was one of the most prominent French ceramicists and designers of the post-war period. He is especially known for his sculptural, organic forms and rich glazes, but also collaborated with manufacturers such as Longchamp. His works combine the clean lines of modernism with a strong artistic sensibility and are today highly sought after by collectors.
