About the Item
Dated to the Republic period (1912-1949), this bowl is beautifully decorated with a rich, persimmon-orange glaze accented by gilt brushwork. Wrapped around the center of the bowl are four medallions enclosing Chinese calligraphy. Gilt embellishments of flying bats flank each medallion as symbols of happiness and a golden trim delicately lines the lip as a finishing touch. This bowl now lives on as keepsake of the cultural history spanning from East to West Asia.
