About the Item

This bowl or jardiniere, crafted by Michael Andersen Son, is a remarkable reproduction of a baptismal font discovered in a church in Åkirkeby on Bornholm. The original font, adorned in blue colors, served as the muse for this exquisite piece. Dating back to the 1960s, this ceramic bowl or jardiniere embodies the essence of Danish craftsmanship. This bowl/jardiniere draws inspiration from the 13th-century baptismal font, showcasing a unique interpretation of its intricate design. Adorning this bowl/jardiniere are relief motifs that intricately depict a variety of fascinating subjects. Among them are representations of a ram, a majestic dragon, a man with a distinguished mustache, and snakes with wolf-like heads. Additionally, the bowl/jardiniere features intricate designs showcasing religious pictures and depictions of royals, adding an air of regality and cultural richness to its aesthetic appeal. Made from ceramic sourced from Bornholm, Denmark, each bowl is a one-of-a-kind creation, featuring its own distinct glaze. As such, no two bowls are exactly alike, adding to their individual charm and appeal. Underneath the bowl/jardiniere: 46452 and the Michael Andersen Son three herring symbol. The design of the original baptismal font extends beyond Denmark, as it finds its origin in the skilled hands of a master on Gotland, Sweden. Crafted from the island's exceptional sandstone, the baptismal font boasts artful details. Michael Andersen Son Pottery, founded in the late 1800s by Jens Michael Andersen, has a rich history of producing exquisite ceramic pieces. From humble beginnings in Ronne, Bornholm, the pottery flourished under the artistic direction of Andersen's sons, earning acclaim for its innovative designs and award-winning glazes. Marked with the iconic three herring symbol, synonymous with Ronne's coat of arms, each piece from Michael Andersen Sons Pottery carries with it a legacy of craftsmanship and artistic excellence.
