About the Item

A ceramic bowl by Guido Gambone, signed to the underside. The interior features Gambone’s hallmark figural decoration drawn in green over a cream ground, surrounded by areas of purple glaze with fine craquelure throughout. The design reflects Gambone’s distinctive mid-century vocabulary—linear, hand-painted imagery that bridges Italian folk art and modern abstraction. A leading figure of postwar Italian ceramics, Gambone (1909–1969) began his career in Vietri sul Mare and later founded La Tirrena in Florence. His work combined painterly surface treatment with simplified form, establishing a visual language that made him one of the most recognized Italian ceramicists of the 1950s. Signed works like this are representative of that period and remain highly collected.
