About the Item

Gustavsberg Argenta was a series of stoneware objects designed by Wilhelm Kåge for the Gustavsberg pottery company in Sweden. Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) is one of the most well-known representatives of the illustrious Swedish ceramic design of the 20th century. He was the artistic leader for Gustavsberg in the 1930s and 1940s and is often called the father of Swedish modernism. Kage is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design. The width of the Argenta pieces is striking, ranging from vases and bowls, to urns and sculptures. They were made of stoneware with monumental forms and neoclassical or Art Deco sterling silver motifs. Most of them came with a mottled strong green glaze. But they could also come in blue, brown, celadon green, or red color. The Argenta series was manufactured until the late 1970s. Signed Gustavsberg, F, Kage, 901, hand signed. "F" dictates the year 1936.
