About the Item
A luminous and beautifully proportioned hand-blown Murano glass bowl by Alfredo Barbini, one of the most revered glass masters of the 20th century. The bowl features swirling layers of baby blue and opaque white glass (known in Murano as lattimo) with a delicate veil of gold leaf inclusions suspended throughout the surface, creating a soft, glowing effect that changes in the light.
This piece exemplifies Barbini’s extraordinary skill in controlling color, translucency, and form. His signature use of subtle tonal contrasts and suspended metallics adds richness and depth without sacrificing the clean, sculptural lines that define his work.
Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007) began his career at the VAMSA glassworks and worked with the likes of Seguso and Venini before founding his own firm in 1950. He was a key figure in postwar Murano glass innovation, helping to revive and reimagine Venetian glassmaking traditions for the modern world. His work is widely collected and can be found in major museums and private collections around the globe.
Elegant in its simplicity and exquisitely crafted, this bowl would make a striking centerpiece or sculptural accent in any interior, from mid-century modern to contemporary or even classic decor.
