About the Item

Origin Vallauris, France, 1982 Materials Hand-painted glazed ceramic Condition Very good vintage condition, consistent with age A striking large round ceramic platter by Monique Brunner, produced in Vallauris in 1982. Entirely hand-painted, the piece depicts a fantastical marine scene featuring a lobster surrounded by stylized fish and other sea creatures. Executed in a vibrant palette of reds and oranges with gilded highlights, the imagery unfolds across a softly marbled ground, giving the composition both dynamism and depth. Signed “Vallauris” and bearing Brunner’s signature, the platter reflects the whimsical and expressive character of her work, as well as the rich postwar ceramic tradition of the French Riviera. Brunner’s ceramics are celebrated for their bold graphic quality and spirited interpretation of Mediterranean life, blending utility with artistic flair. With its impressive scale and vibrant decoration, this platter serves equally well as a functional centerpiece or as a decorative wall display, making it a standout addition to any collection of Vallauris ceramics.
