About the Item

Large and rare hand-blown glass bowl from the Iglu art glass series by Finnish designer Oiva Toikka for Nuutajärvi. Created in the 1970s, each Iglu piece was individually made by hand, resulting in unique variations in tone, form, and texture. This heavy, rounded bowl features a warm amber hue with fine trapped air bubbles throughout the glass - a hallmark of Toikka’s experimental period at Nuutajärvi. The surface reveals subtle irregularities and tiny burst bubbles from the blowing process, adding to its organic charm. The sculptural loop handle is typical of the series’ balance between art object and functional vessel. Pieces of this size are very rare, and this one beautifully captures Toikka’s material-driven approach to glass: expressive, spontaneous, and deeply human. With its luminous color and sculptural presence, it serves as both a collectible work of Finnish design and a striking centerpiece for any interior. • Signed on the base: Oiva Toikka Nuutajärvi Nöttsjö • Height 16 cm (6.3 in), Ø 22 cm (8.7 in) • Hand-blown bubble glass • Period: 1970s • Made in Finland • Very good vintage condition with minor wear, minor inclusions and small burst bubbles typical of the technique
