About the Item

Here is a large and highly decorative bowl designed by Sigismund Olesiewicz (who later took the French name Jean Olin) for Primavera and produced by Longwy in France in the 1930s. Olin was a designer in the famous Primavera shop established by Le Printemps department store. This example is in the cubist style and depicts motifs indicative of cubism including fruit, a guitar, tobacco leaves and a pipe. The bowl is in good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Although the crackle glaze is original to this piece, there is some staining and crazing to the interior of the bowl. This is clearly shown in the photos and does not detract from the overall presentation of this rare bowl. A wonderful example of the work by Olin in a wonderful Egyptian blue color.
