About the Item

Art Deco Center Bowl by Établissements Lucien Fontaine (L’ELF) with Daum Glass, France, circa 1920. Striking Art Deco center bowl created by Établissements Lucien Fontaine (L’ELF), Paris, France, circa 1920, featuring an exceptional blown double glass (pâte-de-verre) bowl produced by Daum, Croismare near Nancy. This refined decorative object exemplifies the sophistication and craftsmanship of early 20th-century French Art Deco design. The glass displays a subtle and elegant palette of pink, ochre, and white tones, characteristic of Daum’s mastery of layered and acid-treated glass techniques. The bowl is enhanced by a finely crafted iron fixture, adding architectural strength and contrast to the delicacy of the glass. The piece is signed “L’ELF” (see photo). This work belongs to the same prestigious artistic period as Muller Frères, André Delatte, Charles Schneider, and Degué, making it a highly collectible example of French Art Deco decorative arts. About Établissements Lucien Fontaine (L’ELF): Founded by Lucien Fontaine at 142 rue de Charonne, Paris, Établissements Lucien Fontaine—often signed L’ELF—was an important Parisian design house active during the Art Deco period. The firm specialized in lighting and decorative objects, frequently collaborating with leading glassmakers of the Nancy school. L’ELF is particularly admired for its elegant metalwork combined with high-quality artistic glass, embodying the luxury and modernity of French Art Deco design. About Daum: Daum is one of the most renowned French glass manufacturers, established in Nancy in 1878 and closely associated with the École de Nancy. During the early 20th century, Daum became a leading force in Art Deco glass, celebrated for its innovative techniques including pâte-de-verre, acid-etched glass, and richly layered coloration. Daum’s glassworks are prized worldwide for their technical excellence, artistic refinement, and enduring influence on decorative arts.
