About the Item
A mid-century Murano glass bowl in vivid orange, handblown in Italy circa 1960s. This vintage Murano catchall is crafted from a cadmium selenium Murano glass mix—an unusual and highly saturated formula prized for its chromatic complexity. In shifting light, the bowl reveals dramatic tonal variations, moving from deep pink-red to a luminous, fiery orange, embodying the expressive colour work associated with Italian glass of the period.
Executed using the bullicante technique, the bowl traps controlled air bubbles within the glass, creating a layered optical depth and illustrating the technical virtuosity of Murano glassblowers.
Circular in form, the silhouette is subtly disrupted by a single, hand-applied indentation along the rim—an intentional irregularity that introduces an organic softness to its geometry. The glass, richly coloured and almost fluorescent when illuminated, adds colourful impact whether used functionally or displayed purely as an art glass object.
Unusually deep for its modest footprint—measuring 9.5 cm in diameter, 10 cm in depth, and 5 cm in height—it serves as a Murano glass catchall, vintage jewellery bowl, or standalone decorative accent.
Though unsigned, the refined proportions and clarity of execution are evocative of Carlo Scarpa’s work for Venini, particularly in the thoughtful interplay between form and technique.
Very good vintage condition with light, age-consistent surface wear. No cracks or chips.
