A handblown Murano glass bowl by Alfredo Barbini, crafted in Italy during the mid-1950s — a defining period in post-war Murano art glass. This elegant mid-century decorative bowl is shaped in a softly irregular circular form with three gentle indentations along the rim, evoking the contours of a clamshell. The freeform design reflects Barbini’s signature sculptural approach and deep knowledge of hot glass manipulation.
The bowl is executed in an opaque pale blue glass, delicately layered with suspended gold polveri, creating a soft, luminous effect. Internally, a precisely controlled bullicante pattern — a matrix of fine bubbles — adds both visual depth and technical refinement, hallmarks of Murano’s 20th-century studio production.

Alfredo Barbini
Alfredo Barbini (1912–2007), a glass artist born in 1912 on the islands of Murano in the lagoon of Venice, Italy, was one of Murano's leading figures of the 20th century. His parents were members of families, which had been prominent in the glassmaking industry on Murano for generations as glassblowers and beadmakers.
