Attributed to Alfredo Barbini for the export market, this large Murano glass centrepiece bowl is a refined example of mid-century Italian art glass. The handblown form is shaped in a soft, organic oval with an asymmetric, shell-like fold at the rim — a gesture that reflects the sculptural sensibility typical of Murano glass from the 1960s.
The interior features a captivating radial pattern formed by cased white lattimo swathes, layered within transparent green glass using the sommerso technique. The contrast between translucent and opaque tones creates a petal-like or feathered effect, lending depth and movement to the surface — a subtle nod to Barbini’s command of visual texture.
Measuring 27.5 cm wide, 23 cm deep and 7 cm high, the bowl presents beautifully as a functional centrepiece or sculptural accent. It remains in good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. Minor firing inclusions are visible under close inspection, consistent with handmade Murano glass of the period and not considered flaws.
