About the Item

A large Murano glass bowl produced in Italy during the 1960s, executed in layered green glass with cased white lattimo decoration. The bowl is handblown in a softly oval, organic form, finished with an asymmetric, shell-like fold along the rim that gives the piece a sculptural, fluid profile. The interior displays a striking radial pattern formed by opaque white lattimo swathes, arranged in a petal-like configuration and encased within translucent green glass using the sommerso technique. This layered construction creates depth and movement, with the milky white elements appearing suspended beneath the surface and subtly shifting in tone as light passes through the bowl. The contrast between the translucent green exterior and the opaque white interior lends the piece a strong visual presence while remaining balanced and refined. The thick glass walls and smoothly polished surface reflect the high level of craftsmanship associated with mid-century Murano production. Measuring approximately 27.5 cm wide, 23 cm deep, and 7 cm high, the bowl works well as a centrepiece or sculptural object, equally suited to a dining table, console, or open shelving. It is in good vintage condition, with no chips or cracks. Minor firing inclusions are visible on close inspection, consistent with handmade Murano glass of the period and not considered defects. The form, lattimo patterning, and overall construction are consistent with Murano glass attributed to Alfredo Barbini, produced for the export market during the 1960s.
