A true work of art - an elegant, rare and large murano art glass centerpiece bowl with brilliant copper aventurine on a jet black base color. Dating to the mid 20th century circa 1955. The copper aventurine of this art glass bowl is very unique and rarely seen. This design is referred to as fenicio or phoenician - a homage to the ancient Phoenician glass vessels that bore the same type of delicate feathered designs. The shape of this murano art glass bowl is equally appealing as it resembles and flowing almost amoeba like organic form. I true conversation starter and and absolute show stopper for the discerning collector of the finest mid century modern art glass of the atomic age. Under daylight or spotlights the copper aventurine is just mesmerizing and shines like a million stars on a deep black cosmic background.
Aventurine art glass is a type of translucent glass with sparkling, metallic-like flecks created by adding tiny metal particles, such as copper or chrome, during the glassmaking process. The technique originated in Murano, Italy, in the 17th century and is often called avventurina. It creates a shimmering effect that mimics the natural mineral aventurine and is used for decorative items, jewelry, and mosaics.
