About the Item

Murano Glass Bowl ‘A Grosse Costolature’ by Ercole Barovier for Barovier Toso, Italy, 1940s This Murano glass bowl by Ercole Barovier was produced in the 1940s as part of the celebrated A Grosse Costolature (large ribs) series for Barovier Toso. A striking example of mid-century Venetian glass, the bowl is hand-blown in translucent opalescent glass and defined by its sculptural ribbed form and festooned rim. The bowl’s surface glows with soft iridescence, shifting gently in ambient light. Each vertical rib is precisely tooled to create a tactile rhythm, exemplifying Barovier’s command of form, texture, and light. Though modest in scale—16 cm in diameter and 10 cm in height—the bowl’s presence is architectural and expressive. Well documented in period publications and included in major glass collections, this piece represents an important moment in Ercole Barovier’s creative evolution, blending traditional Murano techniques with modernist experimentation. Condition: Very good vintage condition. Light surface wear is present, consistent with age and careful handling.
