About the Item

A sculptural Murano glass bowl designed by Alfredo Barbini and hand-crafted in Italy during the 1960s, executed in the refined sommerso technique. The form comprises a vivid translucent ruby-red glass layer over a milky opaline (alabastro) core, fully encased within thick, clear crystal glass. Controlled bullicante air bubbles are suspended throughout the body, a distinctive feature of high-quality mid-century Murano glassmaking. The bowl is shaped as a softened square with four evenly spaced indentations, giving the piece an organic, tactile presence and strong sculptural identity. Substantial in weight and visually dynamic, it functions equally well as a decorative centerpiece, art glass object, or catchall bowl. Dimensions: Width 6.5 in (16.5 cm) Depth 6.3 in (16 cm) Height 2.75 in (7 cm) Condition: Good vintage condition. Minor surface wear consistent with age and use, along with several small edge nicks to the polished base. An eye-catching example of mid-century Italian art glass, combining traditional Venetian techniques with the bold formal experimentation associated with mid-century Murano production.

Aureliano Toso (attr.) Murano Art Glass Bowl, 1950s A Murano glass bowl most probably manufactured by Vetreria Aureliano Toso and designed by Dino Martens circa 1950s. Blue transparent glass with mulitcoloured glass and silver foil inclusions. Coming from a family of Murano glassmakers, Aureliano Toso founded his own company in 1938. The collaboration with the painter and artist Dino Martens already showed the first successes at the XXIII Biennale di Venezia. Over the years, more daring creations followed, which, as with Pop Art, were clearly far ahead of their time. Later, the influence of artists like Gino Poli and Enrico Potz...
