About the Item
Pair of Blackened Wood Bowls with Rattan Rim and Mother-of-Pearl Inlay - 1980s
Set of 2 handcrafted wooden bowls or dishes from Southeast Asia, most likely the Philippines.
Each piece is carved from blackened wood and finished with a finely braided natural rattan rim, showcasing the region’s traditional weaving techniques.
Delicate triangular mother-of-pearl inlays form geometric motifs around the exterior and a star-shaped pattern inside.
A good example of artisanal craftsmanship of Philippine mountain regions, where mixed-material decoration—wood, nacre, and rattan—is a longstanding tradition.
Both bowls are in very good vintage condition with minor age-appropriate wear.
Nice patina!
They make beautiful decorative accents in the kitchen or dining table, whether displayed together or individually.
For collectors of Southeast Asian craft, wabi-sabi interiors, or natural decorative objects.
