About the Item
A beautiful handmade solid silver 925 bowl with a lapis lazuli handle in the shape of a parrot, attributed to Los Castillo and made in Taxco, Mexico in the 20th century.
Most items of similar design are of silver plate, but this example is sold silver, marked ‘925’ to indicate Sterling silver quality.
It is completely handmade, and given its distinctive design is attributed to Los Castillo.
The surface of the bowl is hammered so that it scatters the light and has wonderful presence, with a finish reminiscent of planished Arts
Crafts movement metalware.
The handle is in the shape of a parrot perched on the rim of the bowl. The parrot is inlaid with lapis lazuli with a polished silver beak and has a very cute character.
The bowl is stamped ‘925’ to the base and also carries the silversmith stamps indicating that it was made in Taxco, Guerrero – sometimes called ‘the silver capital of the world’. It is also stamped ‘Hecho en Mexico’ (Made in Mexico).
It is in superb condition with no dents.
A very charming and whimsical piece, made of solid silver and in lovely condition.
