About the Item

A stunning and unusual quality antique Georgian root wood turned pedestal bowl and cover is believed to date from the early 19th century. The turned hard wood container combines various woods with a turned wide round hard wood pedestal foot with narrow turned stem. The foot has a round stepped edge with a raised centre with short narrow stem. The bowl is carved from a piece of root wood retaining the noduled character of the wood to both the inside and outside of the bowl with a carved ridge to the upper outer edge. The bowl has a fitted carved hard wood stepped and slightly domed cover with a raised central finial. The bowl has a stunning hand-crafted appearance with wonderful coloring and aged patina and is typically not marked. A superb display piece and one of three we are offering from the same collection. Provenance: The Collection of David and Sandy Fuller. David was a successful fine art consultant, known for his work with leading galleries and auction houses including Sotheby's and Christie's. Acquired from the UK Art Market. This stunning hand-crafted bowl is offered in good presentable condition with an old original glued in base to the inside of the bowl.
