About the Item

A shimmering Murano glass clam shell bowl by Archimede Seguso, handcrafted in Italy during the 1960s. This mid-century Murano art glass piece is formed in a stylised clam shell shape with clean, modernist lines and a softly curled rim. The design draws the eye inward, emphasising the delicate balance of technique and material. Executed in the sommerso technique, the bowl layers transparent turquoise glass over a subtle core of yellow glass, all encased within a thick layer of crystal-clear glass. Suspended within this layered body is a delicate bullicante bubble pattern, interspersed with fine silver leaf inclusions. Seen from the exterior, the silver appears luminous and cool; viewed through the inner yellow layer, it takes on a radiant golden hue—a clever optical effect and hallmark of Seguso’s technical mastery. Measuring approximately 15 cm wide by 12 cm deep and 7.5 cm high, the bowl is in very good vintage condition. There are no chips or cracks; minor surface wear to the exterior is consistent with age and use. A fine example of mid-century Venetian glass design, this bowl is both sculptural and functional—ideal as a Murano decorative bowl, vide-poche, or collector’s display piece.
