About the Item

"In China the gourd was particularly revered as a symbol of fortune and scholarship. Great care and craft goes into the cultivation of gourds into various shapes - the hourglass or figure eight being the most favoured. Cut from naturally cultivated gourds and lacquered with layers of natural cinnabar and black lacquer, the Calaba Bowl is both delicate and strong and makes for a beautiful coffee table accessory or presentation vessel."
