A monumental hand-carved wooden rice mortar bowl from Lombok, Indonesia, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Carved from a single solid trunk with straight sides, this vessel weighs an impressive 24kg, standing 34 cm high and 50 cm in diameter.
Traditionally used for pounding rice, its thick walls and substantial form bear the textured marks of both handwork and time.
