About the Item

This elegant antique French bronze tray vide poche, crafted circa 1880, is signed “Souvenir L. Buissonin” and reflects an early naturalist aesthetic that anticipates the later Art Nouveau movement. Cast in richly detailed bronze, the oval form is framed by a sculptural openwork rim adorned with grape clusters, curling tendrils, and finely veined vine leaves, all modeled in deep relief with a strong sense of movement and organic flow. The smooth central surface provides a calm visual counterpoint to the animated border, allowing the bronze to read as both decorative and refined. Intended for use as a vide-poche, this antique piece would have served as a practical yet elegant catchall for small personal objects while also functioning as a decorative tabletop accent. The tray rests on two small integral feet, subtly elevating it from the surface and enhancing its sculptural presence. The vide poche is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining a wonderful patinated bronze finish with rich tonal variation and a time-softened surface that enhances the depth, character, and authenticity of this finely cast 19th century French bronze object.
