ABOUT GABRIEL KERAMIK AND GABRIEL BURMEISTER
Gabriel Burmeister (1886-1946) studied at the Technical School from 1905 to 1906 before continuing his education in France and Germany, ultimately finishing under Axel Tallberg in Stockholm. He began his career as a ceramicist in a small workshop in Vittinge in 1920, partnering with Edvin Ollers and Harald Östergren. After brief stints at Upsala Ekeby and Bo Fajans, he purchased Tillinge Fajansfabrik in 1925 (formerly Tillinge Nya Fabrik). This marked the beginning of AB Gabriel Fajansverken and signaled the end of Tillinge Fajansfabrik.
From the start, Gabriel Burmeister and his team focused on continuing faience production while retaining the existing workforce at the location. Initially, production was modest but gradually increased. They maintained certain models from Tillinge Fajansfabrik while also creating new assortments and types of glazes. The company thrived during the 1930s and 40s, despite the factory suffering two major fires during that period—each time it was rebuilt quickly and even larger than before. The factory remains in operation today and is owned by Burmeister's descendants.
