About the Item

A classic of British design: an authentic blue Wedgwood jasperware dish with crisp white neoclassical relief. Crafted in England, this petite tray showcases the matte, powder-blue body that made Wedgwood famous—perfect as a ring dish, bedside catchall, or vanity tray, and handsome enough to display on a shelf with your blue-and-white collection. Why collectors love it Iconic Wedgwood Blue jasperware (unglazed stoneware) with applied white “sprigged” decoration. Clean, sculptural profile that works with traditional, grandmillennial, and modern interiors. Ideal gift size; instantly readable as quality heritage design. History Invented by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, jasperware became the house’s signature material—an unglazed, colored stoneware used for classical cameos and ornaments. The pale blue body with white reliefs (often called “Wedgwood blue”) epitomized the Georgian and later Neoclassical taste and has been produced—continuously and in many forms—from the 18th century through the mid- to late-20th century. Most small trays like this were made in the mid-20th century, when Wedgwood revived historic molds for modern gifting and interiors. Styling ideas Nightstand/vanity: a chic landing spot for rings and stud earrings. Coffee table vignette: perch on a stack of design books with a bud vase. Blue-and-white moment: group with chinoiserie porcelain for tonal layering. Entry console: a refined catchall for keys and coins. Condition Very good vintage condition with light shelf wear and tiny stilt marks to the base commensurate with age and use. No cracks; reliefs are crisp. (See photos.) Dimensions 4.5" Diameter .5" Tall Materials Unglazed jasperware stoneware with applied white relief. Period Mid-20th century (after 1950), England. Color Wedgwood blue / white.
