Cabinet Set 10 Blue and White 18th Century Dr Wall Worcester Porcelain Dishes

About the Item

This set of ten 18th-century dishes is beautifully decorated in cobalt blue and white in the Worcester Pine Cone pattern. The pattern was one of the most popular floral designs made at the Worcester Porcelain factory during the Dr. Wall period of the 18th century. The pattern features pinecones, flowers, and scrolling vines in the center and floral decoration around the borders. This group of ten pieces includes three types of dishes: three pierced shallow bowls, six lobed plates, and one lobed and fluted plate. The three groups are shown in images 2, 3, and 4. They would make a gorgeous display! Marks: The underglaze blue crescent mark on these dishes was used in the factory during the Dr Wall or First Period of Worcester Porcelain, which lasted from 1751 to 1783. Dimensions: three pierced shallow bowls measuring 7.5" diameter x 1.75" height, six lobed plates measuring 7.75" diameter x 1" height, and one lobed and fluted plate measuring 8" diameter 1.5" height. Background of First Period Worcester Porcelain: Worcester's First Period lasts from 1751 to 1783. In 1751, Dr John Wall persuaded a group of 13 businessmen to invest in a new factory at Warmstry House, Worcester, England, on the banks of the River Severn. The early wares were soft-paste porcelain with bodies that contained soaprock, commonly called soapstone in most ceramic circles. In 1783, Thomas Flight, the concern's former London sales agent, purchased the factory for £3,000, which was a substantial sum at that time.
